Obtaining a refund...

I recently purchased a very expensive item (coin) on eBay costing $100s. The pictures of the item were blurry, but I decided to buy the item based on emails to and from the seller, the seller's 100% feedback at the time, and the statement on the auction stating "7 day money back, buyer pays return shipping." When I received the item, it was not what I was expecting. The seller claims he had accurately described my item. I believe he had been deceptive and knew all along that what I purchased from him was a less valuable coin. I mentioned to him that I planned to return the coin for a refund, but he is now saying that since the item was as described, he will not refund my money and that I would have to file a dispute with eBay. What is eBay's track record in situations like this?|||return with insurance and signature required if it is over 250.00 or with delivery confirmation if less than 250.00 initiate a pay pal not as described and give them the tracking # Pay pal is pretty good about these things but why in the world would you buy a high value item with bad pictures ??? that would set off a very loud alarm for me . if it seems to good to be true , chances are it is too good to be true . Sue|||Yes, lesson learned. I would like to think that sellers on eBay, especially those with 100% feedback and with good comments would abide by what they advertise on their auctions. Plus, my email communications back and forth to the seller gave me the sense that he was honest and I could trust him. It's sad. I still think basically he's a good guy. But good sellers can go bad. And when people get $100s in their bank accounts, their attitudes can easily change. I left him with negative feedback so that other buyers will be aware of my situation. I do not plan to change my feedback. Out of curiosity, does eBay tend to side with the buyer or the seller? I have had little success with PayPal.|||Looks to me like this coin sold for $1000.00. The seller is probably worried that the coin sold will not be the coin returned.|||Nope. I returned the coin with delivery confirmation and signature confirmation. I took a picture of the coin in its cardboard holder, the envelope, and my note. I saved the ebay auction (took a picture of it and emailed it to myself). It is very clear that the coin sold to me is the coin that I returned. Nevertheless, an honest seller will abide with what is advertised in his/her auction. I believe most other upright buyers and sellers will agree with this. If eBay does not respect the right of buyers, then there are other places where buyers can do their shopping. Amazon.com has a much better system in my opinion. Buyers are much better protected there.|||"Nope. I returned the coin with delivery confirmation and signature confirmation. " Did you file the (SNAD) with Ebay or Paypal (NOT BOTH) and give them the Signature Confirmation number and escalate the dispute to a claim? If not , do so now. Ebay Buyer Protection Link|||"What is eBay's track record in situations like this?" If you file within the 45 days from date of payment, returned with Signature Confirmation (due to value over $250 ), Escalate the dispute within the time allowed and give Ebay the S/C # to verify return, you should receive your refund of item price and the original S&H.|||Yes, I have filed/submitted a claim and have an eBay reference number. At the time I filed the claim, I did not send the package. I have since sent the coin back. I now have a delivery confirmation number and a signature confirmation number. How do I add this information after submitting my claim? Is there a way to add more information to the claim? Also, what happens if the seller refuses to accept/sign for my returned package? What will eBay do in such a case? And I think I may have filed a PayPal claim as well to cover all bases. If I did do so, what should I do with the PayPal claim? Thanks|||I just checked my US Postal Service papers. I sent the coin back by delivery confirmation and insurance (over $200). The postal clerk said that packages insured for that amount require a signature anyway, so I did not need signature confirmation. I just tracked my package and it shows that it was received by my local post office and will be on its way to the seller.|||James. A rarer coin like this should be graded and not by a company like this seller likes to use. ACG is a waste of money. His feedback is great for the terrible photos he takes of coins. They are so bad that when someone recieves them the coin has to be better than photo.|||The USPS Clerk gave you very bad advice. " so I did not need signature confirmation. " In order to win either a Paypal OR Ebay Buyer Protection claim for SNAD, You are required, to use Signature Confirmation (over $250 vlaue) which is "on line viewable " to Ebay/Paypal . Insurance signature is NOT on line viewable and will not meet the requirements for Ebay /Paypal. Go to the dispute resolution and see , if you can add the S/C# and escalate the dispute to a claim. IF not , call and give them the number and escalate the dispute to a claim. If you do not escalate the dispute to a claim, it will be closed within 7 days and you will receive nothing! Read the links provided previously for Ebay Buyer Protection and Paypal!|||You must provided the S/C # and escalate the dispute to a claim now.Call Ebay 1-800-701-3229 Ebay Buyer Protection procedure link Link|||Ebay/Paypal require Items over $250 value = Signature Confirmation. ( Insurance is a very good idea for buyer's protection for transit back to seller, but is not required by Ebay)Ebay /Paypal require Items under $250 value = Delivery Confirmation only. Both D/C and S/C must be on line viewable by Ebay/Paypal.|||"Also, what happens if the seller refuses to accept/sign for my returned package? What will eBay do in such a case? " If the "on line viewable S/C or D/C shows refused or failed to pick yup by seller, you win the dispute, refund. You must advise of this. "And I think I may have filed a PayPal claim as well to cover all bases. If I did do so, what should I do with the PayPal claim?" You can only file with Ebay OR Paypal not both. Again, READ the link to the Ebay Buyer Protection given several times! If you file with both, one will be voided/rejected. Figure out, which one you filed with , give the S/C # and escalate from a dispute to a claim.|||Read post # 5 again!
